Game Research Lab is a research laboratory hosted at the California State University Monterey Bay founded and directed by Dr. Krzysztof Pietroszek. Its primary research areas include Entertainment and Serious Games, Narrative VR, Human Computer Interaction, Robotics, Computer Graphics and Health Systems. Students and Faculty associated with the Game Research Lab design and investigate novel game designs, interaction techniques, and rendering methods for virtual, mixed and augmented reality.
Game Research Lab research results in applications that provide equitable access to virtual reality technologies, improve quality of life through development of accessible technologies, and enable novel, entertaining ways of learning. For more details, please see a list of our research projects.
Students associated with Game Research Lab come from CSUMB Computer Science and Communication Design Bachelor of Science degrees. During the course of their study, they design and implement entertainment and serious games using advanced hardware and software techniques, such as procedural content generation, VR and AR head mounted displays, mobile-based VR, Leap Motion and other spatial input devices, motion capture suits, and Brain Computer Interfaces.
The projects are developed in collaboration with students of
University of Silesia's Faculty of of Fine Arts and Music, who contribute to the game design, and provide concept art, models, animation, UI design elements, music, sound effects and character voices.
International collaboration results in beautiful, playable game prototypes, which we present below:
